Orange has a diverse range of attractions and activities to entice and entertain you and your travelling companions. Whether you want to talk to a wine maker, find your fortune gold-panning, try your hand at berry picking, indulge in retail therapy or relax in the beauty of a century old park Orange has the attractions to suit.
Here are the top ten attractions as recommended by the Orange Visitor Information Centre:
Wine Tasting:
Visit one of the many wineries producing premium cool climate wine. Local wine tasting tours available.
Orange Botanic Gardens:
Formal and thematic gardens featuring an impressive native and exotic plant collection.
Cook Park:
Dating from 1882 this superb park takes up an entire city block and features an aviary, fernery and begonia house. The Cook Park Guildry showcases local arts crafts.
Mount Canobolas State Recreation Area:
Tall and majestic Mount Canobolas, an ancient volcano, stands 1395 metres above sea level and is often capped with snow in winter. A stunning, 360 degree view from the summit encompasses the City of Orange, the rolling countryside and the Blue Mountains in the distance. There are seven walking tracks, two camping areas and a number of spectacular lookouts and waterfalls.
Lake Canobolas Reserve:
At the foot of Mt Canobolas is Lake Canobolas, a large tranquil lake that provides a range of activities with the changing of the seasons. Excellent for water sports, picnics, barbeques and bushwalking. Also features Meadow Creek Pumphouse.
Ophir Reserve:
Site of Australia's first payable gold discovery in 1851. Gold remains the focus of this beautiful area with excellent fossicking and gold-panning facilities.
Golf:
Orange is home to three excellent 18 hole golf courses. Orange Golf Club (Duntryleague), Wentworth Golf Club and Bloomfield Country Club all have well maintained grass greens and are open to visitors and corporate days all week.
Banjo Paterson Memorial:
Orange is the birthplace of Australia's most famous bush poet Banjo Paterson. A memorial is situated just outside the city.
Retail Therapy:
Orange is home to a wide array of boutique shops specialising in fashion, antiques and bric-a-brac. Two large shopping centres host major retail chains including Myer and the Central Business District provides great variety in shopping experiences.
Orange Regional Gallery and Library:
Orange Regional Gallery hosts many state, national and international exhibitions throughout the year. The Orange Regional Library also hosts many cultural exhibitions while providing excellent research facilities for residents and visitors alike.
