Plan to double car park capacity
A concept doubling the capacity of the Anson Street car park and providing opportunities for new large scale retail development in Orange has been released.
The preliminary proposal, which will go before a Council meeting this week, is designed to be built and paid for by the private sector and create new employment and retail opportunities.
A report to go this Thursday night’s Council meting recommends the proposal be placed on exhibition for public comment. While the Anson Street car park has the capacity to meet the needs of this proposal the next critical step is community feedback.
Four ‘artist-impression’ drawings and an information sheet outlining the project have been prepared. To date the investigations have included discussion with current retailers in the area, preliminary heritage impact assessments, traffic management, geotechnical surveys, provision of drainage and services investigations and future retail demand in the CBD.
The proposal also outlines a number of key impacts including the demolition of the Orange Cultural Centre building in Sale Street and a cottage currently used as the Occasional Child Care Centre in Kite Street to provide improved access. See more here
