Ageing and Disability Services provide a range of services for older people, people with a disability and their carers to assist them to remain living at home. These services are funded by the State and Commonwealth Governments and are fully supported by Orange City Council.

Available services are:

Meals on Wheels

Meals on Wheels provides:

  • Nutritious meals
  • Home delivery up to five days per week by volunteers
  • Delivery time between 11.45 am and 1.00 pm Monday to Friday
  • Special dietary needs are catered for

Frozen Meal Service

The Frozen Meal Service offers:

  • A large range of inexpensive frozen meals
  • Special dietary needs are catered for
  • Available for pick up or delivery

Shopping Service

The Shopping Service aims to assist people by providing a volunteer who will:

  • Assist in the preparation of a shopping list
  • Do the shopping
  • Unpack and store the groceries if required
  • Take people shopping

Telecare

This program provides a daily telephone call by a volunteer to a frail older person or people with a disability living alone.  The caller phones each morning to ensure that the person is well and to help reduce loneliness.  There is no charge for this service and new volunteers are always welcome.

Community Visitors Scheme

This is a national program that provides companionship to socially isolated people living in Australian Government funded care facitlites. The scheme links volunteers to people living in residential care or nursing home accommodation for regular visits.
 

Friendly Visiting Service

This Service links volunteers to visit older people in their homes to chat, lend a helping hand and reduce social isolaton.

Small Group Activities

A broad range of activities are provided to respond to the social needs and interests of eligible service clients.

Grounds Maintenance

Older people and people with a disabilty are able to purchase lawn and minor grounds maintenance services through a voucher system that has been arranged with authorised local garden maintenance businesses. Conditions apply. Please call 6393 8974 to find out more.

Community Restaurants

Community disabilty Restaurants take into consideration the social aspect of nutrition. This service provides:

  • Lunch at a variety of local venues
  • An opportunity to enjoy the company of others
  • Transport if required
  • Moderate cost for meals and transport

Bus Trips

Affordable trips are organised monthly to local and regional attractions and events.
 

Seniors' Week

The Neighbour Aid Workers support the establishment of a community committee each year to plan and conduct a program of activities to celebrate Seniors' Week.  The program offers a variety of activities that are well supported by the local community.

Who can make a referral to these services?

Referrals are welcome from:

  • yourself, family, friends or neighbours
  • medical practitioners
  • other community service providers

  • complain without losing access to services
  • make choices
  • access services on a non-discriminatory basis, and 
  • expect the Neighbour Aid service to be accountable
