Are you thinking about becoming a member of Orange City Council?
The election to choose the 12 Orange City Council members will be held on Saturday 8 September.
Nominations for this year’s local council election opened on 30 July and will close on 8 August.
Some legal obligations begin before the official nominations.

Info seminars for candidates
Residents thinking about ‘putting their hand up’ as a candidate in the Orange City Council elections can find out more at two information sessions.
The seminars will be run by Orange City Council and will look at:
• the roles and responsibilities of council members
• ‘Life as a Councillor’
• the 2012 Election Process
The seminars will be held Tuesday 31 July ( 7am to 9am) and Wednesday 1 August (5.30pm to 7.30pm) in the council chambers.
Election funding donations
People who are elected to their local councils are required by law to provide information about campaign donations and campaign spending. The Election Funding Authority held a seminar in Orange 8 May to provide candidates with the details of these requirements. Information about the seminar can be found here.

According to the EFA it is an offence to accept a donation or incur a campaign expense before registering as a candidate.

43 candidates stood for election to Orange City Council in 2008. 12 were elected.
