Chequered Times

Chequered Times .. Single-click to see larger imageChequered Times, a History of Gnoo Blas Orange 1953-1961, was written by Orange journalist and motor sport enthusiast Denis Gregory and published by Orange City Council.

The new book tells the stories of the racing at the track, but more importantly it reveals the politics and fierce rivalry between Orange and Bathurst, the council debates about the track and the local MP Charles Cutler’s efforts in parliament to counter a campaign by Bathurst MP Gus Kelly, NSW Health Department and police to put every obstacle in the track’s way so it didn’t become a serious rival for Mt Panorama.

Chequered Times was launched by Orange Mayor John Davis and motor racing legend Leo Geoghegan.
