Busking during the Christmas season in Orange

Busking in Orange’s main shopping area is one of the most colourful highlights of the holiday season.

It’s a great opportunity for young people (usually…) to gain performance experience and make some money.

Orange City Council has a system to manage Christmas busking that is aimed at :

  • giving everyone a great busking experience
  • managing the strong demand and competition for locations and times,
  • allocating peak times and locations fairly
  • liasing with shop-owners in the CBD

It works like this.

For each busker, someone ( a young person and/or a parent/carer ) has to come to the council customer service counter at the Civic Centre (cnr of Byng St & Lords Place) to :

  • complete the paper-work (including signing a risk management form)
  • pay the application fee
  • be allocated convenient locations and times

To give everyone the same opportunity, it’s first-come, first serve beginning on,

9am on Tuesday 15 November.

You can come after that time, but some spots may no longer be available.

The council offices open at 9am each day.

On this morning, it’s expected there will be a queue.

Staff will deal with people as quickly as possible but depending on the demand, you may be in the queue for some time.

Applications can’t be accepted by phone or online.

You can download the application form here.

As an editable WORD file to complete on screen, then print and bring with you

Please don't email these forms back to the council. You will need to bring the completed forms with you, when you come to the counter.

Copies of these forms will be available at the Civic Centre counter.

Christmas Busking Season

The busking season begins on Monday 28 November and ends Sunday 1 January

This form lets you think about beforehand and propose FOUR different times (mornings/or afternoons) and locations. These can’t be locked in, until after the booking is completed at the Civic Centre, and compared with spots which may already be filled.

The form also includes information about ‘Busking Risk Management’. This information is aimed at minimising potential risks and hazards. You will need to agree with these requirements and sign a form when submitting your application.
