The Orange Theatre Company presents Essgee’s unique adaptation of Gilbert & Sullivan’s The Pirates of Penzance.

Our story begins as Frederic is about to reach his 21st birthday, concluding his apprenticeship to the infamous Pirates of Penzance (all former orphans). Frederic’s nursemaid, Ruth, reveals that she had mistakenly apprenticed him to a Pirate instead of a pilot, as intended. Once released, Frederic meets a group of sisters and falls in love instantly with one named Mabel. The Pirates return and the sisters father, the Major-General is forced to pretend he is also an orphan to win their sympathy. As Frederic vowed his freedom would be devoted to exterminating all Pirates, he is busy launching an attack with the cowardly assistance of the police. Meanwhile, Ruth & the Pirate King reveal an amusing paradox. It seems Frederic was born in a leap year on the 29th of February and, in terms of actual birthdays, is only 5 instead of 21. Therefore, must serve for another 63 years.

With more laughs and a more modern sound, this performance of swashbuckling choreography & ‘Poperetta’ style songs is sure to get you humming along and dancing in your seats.
