Welcome to summer. Pool celebrates with free weekend

To mark the beginning of summer, Orange Aquatic Centre is opening the doors, for free, this weekend.
For two days, Saturday and Sunday, December 1 and 2, everyone has free entry to any of the pools and facilities at Orange Aquatic Centre.

Orange Mayor Reg Kidd said the Council wanted to thank the community for its continued support of the centre.

“It’s predicted to be quite warm in Orange this weekend, compared with much of the weather we’ve had recently,” Cr Kidd said.

“The predicted tops of 27 and 28 degrees will be a warm change from the blustering weekend just gone, and its great weather to hold a free pool weekend.

“The community has been incredibly patient with the Orange Aquatic Centre’s recent renovations to the toddler pool and several back-of-house upgrades, which at times have closed the centre.

“We want to say thank you and welcome to summer.”

Orange City Council’s Sport and Recreation Chair Jason Hamling said the Council had also decided to compensate season pass holders with an extra two weeks’ validity on their passes.

“We know there has been some inconvenience for pass holders during times a pool has been closed for maintenance,” Cr Hamling said.

“We want to acknowledge that inconvenience with two weeks extra on their season pass for free.

“Overall the community has been really supportive with recent events at the pool and everyone has shared the pool space well.

“It’s heart-warming to see elderly people doing aerobics, next to lap swimmers, next to babies in our Learn to Swim program.

“It’s a reflection of the wonderful opportunities the centre provides and programs run by our dedicated staff.”

Cr Hamling encouraged anyone who had not been to the Aquatic Centre before, to visit this weekend and see the high-quality facility.

“We’ve just upgraded both the female and male change rooms at a value of about $300,000 and they look fantastic.

“We’ll also have the dive pool open this weekend for several hours each day and we’ll have inflatable obstacle courses on top of the water,” he said.

“It’s a great facility and we’re lucky we have pools to swim in all year round.

“We have a 50 metre outdoor pool for great weather and two indoor pools when it’s not so great, which in Orange can be changeable from day to day.

Any season pass holder must contact the Orange Aquatic Centre to extend their pass.
