Workshop: Visual Storytelling and Photography
August 24 @ 10:00 am - 5:00 pm$150
Join Matt Abbott and Dean Sewell, from award winning documentary photography collective Oculi, for an all-day photography workshop focused on visual storytelling in regional areas.
Firmly believing that stories can be found anywhere, Matt and Dean will help photographers with any level of experience with basic techniques in developing story ideas and narratives through documentary photography. They will also be able to answer questions about photojournalism and the industry, offer a portfolio review, and provide other guidance on long term projects or narrative based visual storytelling tailored to each participant.
The day will begin with an introduction from Matt and Dean, including an introduction to some of their work, some background to visual story telling and their approach to documentary photography. After morning tea, there will be an opportunity to review the portfolios of the attendees, before diving deeper into documentary photography after lunch. This will be a great opportunity for photographers to explore project construction and ask questions of some of Australia’s leading documentary photographers.
This workshop is being run in conjunction with Orange Regional Museum’s exhibition All in a Day’s Work, offering a glimpse into the working lives of Orange locals through the lens of Central Western Daily photographers between 1955 and 1974.
Places are limited, so book soon to avoid missing out! For more information and bookings visit the Eventbrite booking page – https://documentaryphotography.eventbrite.com.au
Please note that this workshop is focused on story telling and project construction, and is not about the techniques of using a camera and camera advice.
