Youth Hub offers a safe place to hang out these school holidays

Orange City Council’s Youth Hub is offering young people aged 12 to 24 a place to drop in and hang out these school holidays.

The Youth Hub at 33 Garema Road (in the Glenroi Community Centre) is open from 10am to 6pm, Monday to Friday, offering games, food and a safe place to hang out for the youth of Orange.

Young people from all over Orange can enjoy sports such a basketball, touch footy, handball, skateboarding, table tennis and pool. They can surf the internet, play computer games, get creative with art, music and cooking or simply chill out with friends.

Orange Mayor Reg Kidd said the service was an important way to encourage and support young people, many of whom may feel lonely or isolated during the school holidays.

“Some young people don’t have a lot to do in the school holidays. The Youth Hub provides an important service for our young people, whether it’s simply enjoying the company of others or offering the chance to enjoy hobbies or learn a new skill or sport,” Cr Kidd said.

“Having a safe place for them to go at their own pace, with fun activities and supportive staff, might be just the thing they need to get involved and feel like they belong.”

The Youth Hub will also run a program of afternoon events each day from January 11 to 22, including recreational activities, barbecues, board games, pizza making and music, a cinema visit and an art workshop.

Orange City Council Services Policy Committee Chair Scott Munro urged any interested young people to head to the Youth Hub or contact them for more information.

“This is just one example of the beneficial programs developed by the Youth Hub’s dedicated, supportive staff, who work with other local agencies to build constructive relationships with our young people,” Cr Munro said.

“It is an opportunity for Orange youths to have some really positive experiences during the school holidays.”
